**SERP** (**S**earch **E**ngine **R**esult **P**ages) is an acronym used to refer to the result pages in search engines.

When searching for a [[keyword]], the results will be sorted by relevance and displayed on multiple pages. By default each page contains 10 [[search result#organic search results|organic search results]].

===== Importance for SEO =====

The higher a [[web page|page]] is positioned in the SERPs, the higher is the probability that users will visit it. Basically, SEO means trying to improve the website's position in SERPs. 

Search engines usually display a snippet of the page's [[title]] and [[description]] to give the user a first impression of the page.
